Aave V4’s Arc market attracts $76 million in USDC, but almost no borrowing

The deployment follows Aave governance work to activate V4 markets and add spokes on different networks. Aave’s governance forum lists the Arc Core Main Spoke among the new deployments and identifies a large early USDC inflow, while the protocol’s market data provides the live supply-and-borrow view. The two records describe different moments and scopes, so the figures should be read as snapshots rather than a permanent balance.

The central signal is supply is not the same as demand. Depositors can move capital into a new market to earn incentives, support an ecosystem launch or position for future activity even when borrowers have not yet arrived.

Why utilization matters

A lending market earns its role in DeFi through both sides of the balance sheet. Suppliers provide liquidity and expect yield; borrowers pay interest to use that liquidity. When borrow demand is near zero, the market can still look large by total deposits while generating little fee income and offering limited evidence that the chain has organic credit activity.

That does not make the Arc deployment a failure. Arc launched only recently, and early liquidity may be a prerequisite for applications, market makers and treasury managers to begin using the network. New markets also need time for collateral types, risk parameters and integrations to mature. The current imbalance is therefore an adoption checkpoint, not a final verdict.

Aave’s design distributes liquidity through hubs and spokes, which can make the relationship between a local market and the wider protocol easy to misread. A deposit on Arc can increase the network’s visible liquidity without proving that users are borrowing against it. Analysts will need to track utilization, borrow rates, collateral growth and the concentration of large suppliers.

What would turn deposits into a working market

The next evidence is sustained borrowing. If utilization rises alongside a diverse set of borrowers, the market would show stronger signs of economic use. If deposits keep growing while borrowing stays close to zero, the pool may be functioning primarily as a liquidity or incentive destination rather than as a credit venue.

Parameter changes can also shape the outcome. CryptoSlate reported that LlamaRisk proposed raising Arc’s USDC supply-side capacity after the initial limit filled. Increasing a cap can accommodate more deposits, but it does not create borrowers or remove risks tied to collateral, oracle design, smart-contract bugs and the bridge or settlement assumptions around a new chain.

Aave V4’s Arc launch is best read as an early test of network bootstrapping. Idle liquidity is evidence, not adoption. The data is a time-stamped market snapshot, not a forecast or personalized financial advice.
