HashKey brings Franklin Templeton's tokenized Treasury fund to Asian professional investors

The product is not a retail Hong Kong launch. The release limits access to eligible digital-asset investors, and independent reporting by The Block says the tokenized fund is available only to professional investors and is not open to the general public in Hong Kong.

The token changes the record, not the reserve assets

Franklin Templeton's existing fund page describes the underlying vehicle as a money fund invested at least 99.5% in U.S. government securities, cash and repurchase agreements collateralized by those assets. The blockchain-based share record adds a digital distribution and transfer layer; it does not turn the fund into a crypto-native reserve or a deposit.

That distinction matters for access. HashKey is distributing a regulated asset-manager product through a regulated digital-asset venue, but eligibility, subscription and redemption terms still govern who can use it. A tokenized wrapper does not remove the fund's product rules or the venue's jurisdictional limits.

Asia is becoming the distribution test

The launch extends Franklin Templeton's tokenized-fund strategy through a Hong Kong platform with operations across several Asian and Middle Eastern markets. The companies said they intend to explore additional tokenized products, but the announcement provides no independent measure of assets, subscriptions or recurring trading volume on HashKey.

The next evidence is operational: how many eligible investors use the channel, whether redemptions work across the venue's processes and whether other asset managers follow. The launch proves a new distribution path; it does not yet prove broad adoption of tokenized money-market funds.
